TATTOO DO’s AND DOnt’s

Before your tattoo

  • Avoid drinking both alcoholic and caffeinated beverages at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Moisturize the area being tattooed for a week before your appointment. Moisturized skin makes tattooing easier, which in turn will lead to better results.

  • Be sure to eat a healthy, well balanced breakfast and stay hydrated the day of your appointment.

If you are using numbing cream, please make sure the brand you are using is approved by your artist BEFORE your appointment. We have a list of specific creams we are comfortable working with.

Aftercare

Please ALWAYS make sure your hands are washed with antibacterial soap before ANY aftercare is started.

  • Leave your Recovery derm shield on for 24-48 hours depending on your artist’s recommendation. You can still shower with the derm shield on, but do not wash on top of the wrap, as the soap will loosen the adhesive.

  • Carefully peel the wrap off gently in the shower, under running water. Make sure the water you are peeling under is cooler than what you think you need. Water will feel warmer on the tattoo once the wrap is off.

  • Once the wrap is off, gently clean it with Dial antibacterial soap. DO NOT use a wash cloth, use your hands.

  • Once it is washed, pat the tattoo dry with a paper towel.

  • Spread a thin layer of the artist’s recommended lotion/glide. DO NOT oversaturate your tattoo with lotion. You can clog your pores and cause breakouts, or uneven healing in your tattoo.

  • Continue washing and lotioning your tattoo 2-3 times a day until it is fully healed.

  • Avoid tanning and swimming for at LEAST 2 weeks following your tattoo.

During the Appointment

  • Bring snacks and water/drinks to keep you fueled throughout your session. We do provide snacks and drinks at our shop as well, but you can bring your preferred snacks if you’d like.

  • Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing to your appointment. If you are unsure of what you should wear to make the area easily accessible, please reach out to your artist in advance to see what they would recommend.

  • If you would like, you are more than welcome to bring a friend with you! But if you do have a longer session, be sure to have your friend bring something to keep them occupied as well while you are being tattooed.
